Nordic walking or Stick walking is very popular in the mountains during the summer months. This analogy of walking was developed in Scandinavia, where it was used during the training mainly by cross-country skiers. The main diference from athletic walking is that in Nordic-walking walker uses telescopic (or ski) poles.
The character of the movement of the arms is similar to athletic walking. The lenght of the poles is calculated - 0.72 x body height, or body height minus 50 cm.
The lower extremities perform an alternating movement, while stepping on the entire foot (or slightly over the heel). It is performed either in the terrain (where we use the poles with classic end), or on the asphalt (where we use the poles with a rubber end).
The advantage of using the poles is less tention in cervical spine, activation of the triceps muscle of the shoulder, the pectoralis muscle, the muscles of the back part of shoulder girdle and the broad back musle.
